Litigation funding: a young industry but no longer in its infancy

Compared with the profit figures of large multinational corporations, third party litigation funders have published disproportionally high growth figures in the last weeks. For example, Australian funder IMF Bentham reported a 152% increase in net profit over the last half year. IMF has historically generated an average 298% gross return on funds invested. IMF is building out its U.S. and European activities by focusing on companies, banks and insurers.
IMF’s main competitor, Burford Capital, recently announced a 43% increase in profit, a 60% return on capital, and had a threefold increase in new investment commitments in 2014, as they cash in on other people’s lawsuits…Click for more.
